How to Keep Jewelry Nice

Somebody have a lot of jewelry ,I am not talking about diamonds, gold and platinum but accessorie type stuff necklaces bracelets earings rings.How do you keep it from looking dingy?How to keep it looking new?
Someone put clear polish on it but I have never personally tried it.I think Clean it with an old toothbrush with either real jewelry cleaner or toothbrush. then when its all clean put on clear nail polish all over it. it keeps it shiny and dust and dirt does not get on it.
the other way suggest simply brushing it with warm soapy water. If dont want to do that, go to local Wal-Mart in the jewellery section. There are jewellery polishing cloths and they will bring the sparkle back.
