CCA’s relationship with Surface—now in its seventh year—gives students the opportunity to have their work evaluated by the magazine’s editors in consideration for the Surface Emerging Talent Award. The winner of this award receives a profile of his or her work in the magazine’s annual Avant Guardian issue and is flown to New York to attend the photo shoot.

On Sunday, I went with a couple of friends to the NYC Young Designers’ Market. There I met Parsons Gucci design grad, Ms. Betty Green, and fell in love with her designs. Her clothing line, Nature vs Future, has classic lines with a futuristic twist. Not only do her clothes look fabulous on models, they also look really good on the average woman. I bought an olive green suit made of organic cotton. The thing’s machine washable, but I’m probably going to take it to the dry cleaners for fear of shrinkage.
