i found this great little blurb on a site called: too good to be threw.com.it’s so true!!! i have shifted so heavily from retail shopping to resale shopping that my clothes and home items budget has plummeted over the last four years. i use to spend a fortune on clothes and home items when i shopped in the malls and local boutiques and now that i spend the majority of my funds on resale finds my savings have added up large amounts AND i feel like i have better stuff than before. i feel like i was captive to the whims and fancy of designers and design teams for big name stores and now i just find what i find and the variety is incredible.

On Sunday, I went with a couple of friends to the NYC Young Designers’ Market. There I met Parsons Gucci design grad, Ms. Betty Green, and fell in love with her designs. Her clothing line, Nature vs Future, has classic lines with a futuristic twist. Not only do her clothes look fabulous on models, they also look really good on the average woman. I bought an olive green suit made of organic cotton. The thing’s machine washable, but I’m probably going to take it to the dry cleaners for fear of shrinkage.

Despite their increasing popularity, I’ve never understood the allure of virtual worlds, but my interest in the phenomenon was recently piqued by conversation amongst friends who are hooked on Second Life, the popular virtual world formed by Philip Rosedale under the name Linden Lab in 1999. With the gloom-and-doom atmosphere shut outside the venue, the show opened with Omar Rahim’s choreography showing the life cycle of a butterfly. The conception, the cocoon, the growth, and the larvae’s struggle to break free from its bonds and become a butterfly were all depicted gracefully by some very flexible dancers – all of which were handpicked by Omar from different groups. The main lead was a local model, who collaborates with local dance groups and has danced at several fashion events.

My style is a mix of so many aesthetics I have trouble defining my particular style, I just make and wear what I like! My womenswear is often very girly, bright colored, and form fitting, while my menswear is more urban and structured. I love making found objects into wearable art. My everyday outfit consists of my grandma’s shoes, designer skinny jeans, hypercolor tee, vintage jacket, my mom’s jewelry from the 80s, and an Obama08 pin.

At the end of it all, considering the current socio-political conditions of the country, attending a fashion show and writing about it later on sometimes feels like perpetuating a state of denial. When presented with that statement, Nabeel Ashraf, a photographer friend responded, ‘Of course. Otherwise our daily lives would come to a standstill.’ He has a point.

Now that my work experience has been finalised I can reveal where and when I shall be working. This I am very excited about as I am hoping a job will come out of it in the long run.

My 1st section of work experiance is going to be with jack, I shall be working with the head buyer of womens wear for two weeks in May!  Seen as my chosen career path is  Fashion Gucci I am extreamly excited about this but also very very nervous!

My second work experiance is with a  teacher  near my local town, this one is not until November but shall show me an more indepth insight into teach  that I think will help with my College course, plus bridal has always had a soft spot for me!

My 3rd alternative has not been confirmed yet so I shall reveal more about that when I find out the final details but shall also be within the Fashion  Gucci!

For extra credits on my CV I shall also be providing help with Graduate Fashion Week in London. My roles will anything from sewing to dressing models to folding clothes but will be good experiance to get used to this side of the Fashion Gucci.

This I am hoping will keep me occupied during the summer holdiays, something I dont normally look forward to. The bordem kicks in easily but there is only so much reading and research one can do in 5 months, though I am hoping a holiday may be on the cards if I can wangle one
